The Inspiring Story of TATABA Cooperative

If you haven’t heard of TATABA, it’s time to take note. TATABA stands for Taita Taveta Banana Farmers’ Cooperative Society Ltd, and it’s not just any farmers’ group — it’s a movement.

What Is TATABA?

TATABA was founded in 2018, bringing together banana farmers in Taita Taveta County. TATABA'S GOAL? To empower farmers, build strength in numbers, and bridge the gap between small-scale growers and bigger markets.

Why It Matters

  • Collective Power: By organizing as a co-op, farmers can negotiate better, access resources, and invest in value-addition.

  • Quality First: TATABA does not just grow bananas — we sort, grade (Grades A, B, C), ripen, and even explore banana by-products.

  • Sustainable Growth: TATABA uses “Rapid Multiplication Technology” to boost productivity in a sustainable way.

  • Community & Youth: There’s also a youth council, meaning young farmers have a voice and a stake.

Where We Operate

TATABA headquarters is in Taveta (Mahoo, opposite ACK Church), and we also run a ripening station in Sofia (Voi). This infrastructure makes the whole operation more efficient — from farm gate to market.

Why You Should Care

  1. Supporting Local Farmers: When you back TATABA, you’re backing real people — not corporate farms.

  2. Better Quality Bananas: Aggregation + grading = consistently good quality.

  3. Innovation Matters: We’re not just farming; we’re investing in tech and value-addition.

  4. Sustainable Community Impact: More than profit, this is about community uplift and environmental sustainability.

Final Thought

TATABA is more than a cooperative — it’s a vision. A vision of farmers who are organized, empowered, and building something that lasts. Whether you’re a consumer, an investor, or someone who cares about sustainable agriculture, TATABA’s story is one worth following. Join TATABA
